Media Interviews
Make sure to check out some media interviews I’ve done during my role as Curator of Black History at History Colorado.
Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police
“Paradox: Echoes of Reform & the Minneapolis Police” is a new documentary now streaming on PBS. Guided by historian Yohuru Williams, the documentary traces the long history of policing and reform, showing how George Floyd’s murder was a century in the making.
I was honored to contribute insights on early 20th century police encounters with Black women and Black press coverage of police brutality.
Colorado Experience: Black Cowboys
Black cowboy culture is experiencing a renaissance. Creators, including myself, are reclaiming a long-overlooked legacy deeply rooted in Colorado history—from the pioneering Exodusters to Lu Vason, founder of Denver’s Bill Pickett Rodeo. As Black history faces growing threats, this documentary highlights the enduring impact of Black cowboys and the voices redefining the culture today.
Owl Club of Denver: Legacies of Excellence
This documentary explores the rich traditions of a prominent all-Black debutante cotillion club that began in 1941 in the Mile High City. This story illuminates young "debs" and challenges racial stereotypes that limit the role and potential of Black girls. The Owl Club redefined the meaning of a debutante and helped create representations of beauty, academic achievement, and acceptance for a community that's often been misrepresented and forgotten.
